This hands-on workshop invites you to explore the rich world of South Asian tile painting, with a focus on Islamic, Mughal, and Arabesque tile painting. These art forms are celebrated for their intricate patterns, thoughtful symmetry, and timeless beauty.

We'll begin by tracing the historical and cultural journeys of these art forms, from the Indus Valley civilization to post-colonial patterns. Through this exploration, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how these patterns emerged as expressions of both spiritual reflection and artistic mastery.

Guided by gentle instruction, you’ll then bring your own interpretation to life on custom clay tiles, blending traditional motifs with contemporary design. Each piece will be yours to take home, a personal keepsake that carries the essence of centuries-old artistry into the present.

Located at 401 Richmond Street West, on November 15th.

About Sukoon: Sukoon Space was born from a shared love for the art forms of our South Asian heritage. As members of the diaspora, we felt a deep personal connection to these traditions, while also noticing how difficult it can be for others to access and explore them. What began as a conversation grew into a vision to create a “third space” — a welcoming, inclusive environment where people can connect, learn, and create together. Guided by curiosity and a passion for creativity, Sukoon Space invites participants to experience a sense of peace and belonging, true to the meaning of “sukoon” in Urdu.
